Sydney's dark rock/ metalcore outfit Wicked Envy is back with another killer single called 'False Face', and you're going to want to hear this one!
Right off the bat, this track screams a clear statement!
"False Face is a formidable force that commands attention from the world. Making a strong stand against corrupt politicians and government." - Desiree Hancock
Sweeping itself into hard, overdriven riffs, False Face certainly does create that sense of command. I can imagine hearing this song as the opening track to a Wicked Envy live set. It feels perfect for that "Shut up, it's starting" moment.

As we plunge into the first verse, the beating kick drum from Eddie Green creates an immediate palpable aggression.
On first listen, I could not get over how addictive the vocal melody was.
In saying this, Desiree seems to find the perfect blend between clean, melodic vocals and gutturals as we progress toward the chorus.

All I can say is what a hook!! This chorus has been in my head for days, and I'm not even mad about it. There's something truly addictive about the guitars from Jared Doust and Jakub Kyral in this section, perhaps it is also that they are so beautifully mixed. I am in awe of the production team for executing Wicked Envy's badass, live-energy sound!

The second verse to the pre-chorus section of False Face is my absolute favourite part of the song. It's that moment where you can hear all of the seething reach a boiling point.
Desiree's Lyricism does an incredible job of capturing that rage felt by so many of us whilst grappling with political news, watching corrupt world leaders use their platform to promote hatred and genocide.
If you have ever hit a point where you feel overwhelmed and unmotivated by news like this, I'd definitely recommend giving False Face a listen. This track begs to be screamed by a mosh pit full of dark rock and metalcore fans, and guess what? I think we have just the opportunity to make that happen.
