queensland nu-metalcore band we the hollow took the time to sit down with us to give our readers a look behind the masks for a break down of history, inspiration and what will be

coming in the future. here is what they had to say.
How did We The Hollow form?
We The Hollow formed back in 2019, pre covid. It basically started with a few riffs in a shed as well as a masked concept after a few lineup changes the rest is history!
How did you decide on the name “We The Hollow”?
A funny story, the band was originally supposed to be named “Red Head Redemption” because all the original members had ginger hair. But after a few serious discussions we settled on “We The Hollow” as we feel our interior holds no significance or value. People only care about what’s on our exterior and how we carry ourselves on the outside. So we go out of our way to make it look horrific and uncomfortable.
What was the process of the mask making like and where does the inspiration for them come from?
All of our masks have been created by seperate mask makers across the globe. Echo(Reece), Fracture(Scott) and our newest member Pulse have all had ours made in the Philippines by Ron Sambile. He’s a really talented artist and manages to bring all our ideas to life. Our second guitarist Sever(Cody) has had his made by an artist in Germany with the idea of having a haunting smile because people are forever telling him to smile and

our bass player Tremor (Kristian) has actually crafted his own from a few different masks he felt best suited him.
What does We The Hollow’s writing process look like?
Most songs usually start with a riff and it builds from there. Once there is a structure the song will go to Echo (Reece) to write lyrics. Then we all come together @ Hollow HQ to finalise what the final track will be and sound like.
What was it like being a new band coming up through covid?
It definitely created some challenges when it came to trying to play our first few shows. But fortunately when covid was in its peak we weren’t quite ready for shows yet. So we put a lot of that time into writing and recording.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
I think the band as a whole draws a lot of inspiration from Slipknot, Korn and other 2000’s Nu metal. But we also get inspired by a lot of different genres and artists from Whitechapel and Sum 41 to Marilyn Manson and Billie Eilish.

Who is your dream band to tour with?
I’m going to say locally Parkway Drive. They are as big as it gets when it comes to metal in Australia and Internationally would have to say Slipknot or Marilyn Manson.
Will we be seeing an album release next year after the “Screen Time” single debut in May?
There is most definitely an album coming in the new year! Was supposed to be this year but a few speed bumps prevented that from happening. But yes a new album ready to smash 2026
If you could feature any Australian artist on a We The Hollow track, who would it be?
I think having Winston McCall (Parkway Drive) feature on a We The Hollow track would be off its head!

How did your performance at BrewFest go? Were there any nerves with it being your only performance this year, playing new release music and with a new addition to the team?
It was honestly amazing. I think this is the best the band has ever felt and I’m excited to see how we progress in the new year. It was so rewarding watching people bang their heads to new tracks we have put so much effort into. There were definitely nerves at the start because this was the first time we have put effort into a properly timed stage show. But once we got rolling into the set we felt at home.
After re-recording the music video for “Screen Time”, did you learn anything from the first go round that improved the second video?
There are definitely some aspects from the first shoot I wish we could have had in the second. But we as a band have learnt to trust our gut and not let people walk over us. We are glad we didn’t settle for something we weren’t happy with.
Throughout your time touring/making music, what is the biggest lesson you have learnt that you would want younger bands to know?

Our advice would have to be don’t be afraid to take risks. Sometimes things don’t work in your
favour but it’s all a learning curve when it comes to making music and playing shows.
Another one would be Shoot Big! You never know what kind of opportunity’s could come from sending an email or reaching out to the right people.
Is there any tour information/music release or general information you would like to share with the readers?
Keep an eye on We The Hollow in 2026 we will be coming to a town near you. Our new album In Clowns We Trust will drop in the new year.
