Thirsty? Craving something a little fruity? Take a gulp of this latest track from Loose Surface and chew on the ‘Pulp’. This juicy track has one hell of a kick.
Wollongong-based alternative-rock band Loose Surface has returned following their debut 2024 EP ‘Cheap N’ Dirty’ with a punchy single depicting the tense and messy ‘friendship’ between two women that feels like more.
‘Pulp’, written by lead singer Micah, is a refreshing return for Loose Surface.
Micah maintains the punk-like, straight-forward storytelling voice that was established by rhythm guitarist Tyson in their debut EP yet introduces a female perspective with this toxic lesbian almost love-story.
Just in time for pride month.

Loose Surface creates a heady, anxious yet steamy atmosphere with the nimble playing of bassists Tom’s opening line and an immediately ear-catching dive-bomb from the guitar.
The musical chops they’ve displayed in creating ear-worm melodies with ‘Cheap N’ Dirty’ are yet again put to work with the teasing and Meaningfully loaded pre-chorus of ‘Pulp’.
‘You’re not my type. I’m not that kind.’
With three guitarists, Loose Surface proudly boasts a broad, brash, and full sound. Each guitarist (Tyson, Jack, and Zac) bring a different colour to the song yet the three can meld together with wonderful unity to create a solid kick to the chest of roaring guitars in ‘Pulp’.
The song's racing energy is supported by excellent drum-work from the band's drummer Liam.

His skill shines in the addictive breakdown towards the end of the song as we’re treated to a proper pub-band like jam via Liam's intoxicating drum-solo.
It feels perfectly placed in a way drum solos often don't, and carries the song expertly into its final twisting, anxious, frenzied moments.
‘Pulp’ tells a story both lyrically and musically and it’s told beautifully.
You’ll feel each anxious, awful moment of a toxic situationship and come out the other end begging for more.
‘Pulp’ is a massive step forward for Loose Surface. A massive step in a series of leaps and bounds ahead for this raucous, fun-loving, and undoubtedly hard-working band.
Loose Surface (who are even better live) are performing at Bootleggers in Newtown, Sydney on the 20th of June. The gig doubles as a fundraiser for Endometriosis, Australia.
