This alternative rock band from Kent, England has kickstarted the year with a genre-melding track that intermingles chunky heavy metal riffs with a lighter indie-guitar tone and soaring captivating vocals.

Seek Harbour’s ‘The Witness’ acts as the beginning of a fresh release cycle for the band following their highly successful 2024 EP, ‘Versus’ which gained acclaim from BBC Radio 1 Rock Show and Kerrang Radio (Featured Artist of the Week), among many, many others.

‘The Witness’ begins with an old school metal riff, thick and meaty and low, that’s swiftly mixed with a softer, lighter guitar sound that grows to have the familiar twang and character often associated with The 1975’s debut, self-titled album, ‘The 1975’.

It’s an interesting and delicious mix of sounds, giving the weight of metal whilst providing the melodic characteristics of indie-pop-rock. It allows the track to feel easy to listen to whilst still delivering intrigue through both intricate guitar playing and the vocals of Aimee Allin.

Aimee Allin’s vocals are astonishing in both range and tone, she captures an impressive pop-punk tone most associated with Hayley Williams, beautifully clean and clear but perfectly raspy in the right moments and full of emotion. Importantly, her voice compliments that of fellow vocalist Edwin Hall. Her broad range allows her to fill the lower and upper registers whilst Hall delivers an equally enjoyable performance.

‘The Witness’ has a moment in the opening of the track that shows off this chemistry as Allin and Hall swap lines mid-sentence, transitioning smoothly between the vocals, both harmonising together well whilst also adding their own individual character and flavour to the track.

Another enjoyable moment is the mid-track guitar solo from Christopher Ellinor, intricate and heavy, and full of character. It serves that aforementioned intrigue in what could be an otherwise simple yet classic, indie-rock song. Throughout the song the choices by Ellinor on guitar is a wonderful standout feature.

Speaking with journalist James Weaver from Distorted Sound Mag, vocalist Aimee Allin said ‘The Witness’ was a song for people who have made mistakes and want to change.

“There is always time to become a better person, and sometimes that means being willing to let go of our own ego. It’s never too late.”

Similarly, vocalist Edwin Hall said to James Weaver for Distorted Sound Mag, “This track is about finally finding peace in the understanding that all of those different parts of you are what actually make you - you.”

As ‘The Witness’ is only the first track from the new era of Seek Harbour it’s thrilling to know there may be more exciting, interesting, genre-melding music on the way.
