"2 things i love most about discovering new music...

1: Finding songs that give me that nostalgic 'life is like a movie' feel.

2: Showcasing women in heavy music." - Hayes

Dear Matilda have returned with their latest single, 'Clock’s Ticking', a track that effortlessly blends an upbeat, melodic sound with hard hitting, introspective lyricism.

Known for their high energy performances and reflective songwriting, the Melbourne based band delivers a POWERFUL statement about the pressures of time and societal expectations, particularly for women in music.

The song takes inspiration from the phrase “Clock’s Ticking,” often used to pressure women into conforming to outdated expectations around relationships and family.

However, Dear Matilda expands this concept to explore the broader anxiety of aging and feeling like life is slipping away without achieving enough.

Front woman Gabrielle Matilda shares her personal connection to this theme, reflecting on the unrealistic pressures to “make it” at a young age in the music industry. Her words resonate beyond music, touching on a universal struggle of self worth and ambition against external expectations.

Musically, 'Clock’s Ticking' cleverly contrasts its lyrical weight with a lively instrumental arrangement.

The track, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ash Daws and Evan Lee at The Loud Noise Estate, is driven by a punchy rhythm section, smooth melodic guitar leads, and subtle harmonies that soften the song’s darker themes. While the lyrics paint a morbid picture of life’s mounting pressures, the major key and energetic execution create an interesting duality, making it a song that’s as thought provoking as it is catchy.

This marks Dear Matilda’s fourth release, following previous singles like 'Blood Moon' and 'Today Ain’t The Worst.' The band has already gained traction with national radio play and spots on influential indie punk playlists, solidifying their growing presence in Australia’s alternative scene.

To celebrate the release, they’re hitting the road for a tour, wrapping up with a hometown show at The Gasometer Upstairs on March 8th, featuring Get Jaxxed and Tiarnie as support acts.

With 'Clock’s Ticking,' Dear Matilda continue to carve out their place in the emo punk scene, proving that meaningful, emotionally charged music doesn’t have to be confined to somber tones. It’s a track that’s bound to hit home for anyone feeling the weight of time’s relentless march wrapped in an anthemic, driving sound that keeps you. coming back for more.

As a woman turning 30 and feeling the pressure in the industry, this song was immedietly added to my daily playlist and probably my 'song of the year'. I want to thank them for putting my thoughts into words about the pressure i have been feeling lately.
