The Aussie rockers from Arcade Stories are back with a new single ‘Descent’, and may just be their heaviest yet. The McKay based group have grown from a melodic, post hardcore sound, through heavy, video game inspired metalcore, into a full on metalcore sound. Their 2025 single ‘Opacity’ was our first taste of the heavier sound, but 'Descent' reached another level, unlocking screams and aggressive drumming merged with glitches and static effects, reminiscent of the technological themes and futuristic vibe.

The track is dystopian, curating a scene of loneliness and fear as they yearn for experiencing more, pain or love alike. Opening with a heavy breakdown and confrontational lyricism that fades into a melodic chorus showcasing soft vocals and high pitch synths, contrasting the consistent heavy backline.
“It’s this contrast of emotional openness to the overwhelming heaviness that helps give Descent its defining edge.”

The song is truly a journey, mythical, exciting and ever changing, inviting you to a place of REFLECTION and the middle of a mosh pit simultaneously. I believe this is some of Arcade Stories’ strongest work, showcasing each member’s strengths and incorporating new sounds with themes and elements the band is known for. From ‘Opacity’ to ‘Descent’, I cannot wait to see what else these guys have in store for us.
