On December 15th 2024, Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge came alive with Shōkan and Heavens Gate taking the stage to support hardcore heavyweights Bloom.
The stage was a blessed with rising talent (which we love to see) with each band bringing their unique power to an incredible crowd.
Shōkan
Kicking off the evening, Brisbane’s own Shōkan delivered a set that was nothing short of ferocious. Known for their punishing metallic hardcore sound, the band blends searing riffs, crushing breakdowns, and impassioned vocals.

Their music exemplify their ability to channel raw aggression with surgical precision, and their performance at Black Bear Lodge was no exception. This was our first time seeing these guys and my GOD, from the first note, the band’s energy was contagious, hyping the crowd and setting the tone for the night.
Heavens Gate
Heavens Gate, another standout from the Australian metal scene took the stage. Drawing inspiration from giants like Counterparts and Knocked Loose, Heavens Gate has carved out their own niche with a sound that’s equally melodic and unrelentingly heavy.

Their performance was both emotionally raw and technically sharp, captivating the audience with soaring riffs and lyrics that resonated deeply. The band’s stage presence and connection with the crowd were undeniable, making it clear why they’ve been gaining momentum in Australia’s heavy music scene. Plus the lead singer is fine AF!
