Last weekend I was invited to come along to the "Metal For MENtal Health" charity gig at the Bergy Bandroom in Brunswick. Organised by Adrian De Santis from Melbourne-based band Nightmarsh, this gig featured a lineup of local heavy-hitters raising money for an important cause.

Sponsored by Look After Your Mates, an Aussie clothing brand that donates 50% of their profits to MensLine Australia, the aim of the night was to fundraise through ticket sales as well as donations.

The first act on the line-up was Sundreamer, a band that blends early Melbourne metalcore and djent influences with melodic ambience.

Atmospheric and ethereal, Sundreamer is undoubtedly heavy whilst also providing a sense of dreaminess through their music.

I was especially blown away by lead vocalist Eden and his ability to emotively express through his dynamic vocals.

Sundreamer absolutely brought the energy, and as openers, set the tone and standard super high for the rest of the night.

Next up was Adrian and Nightmarsh, bringing their brutal Progressive Deathcore to the table. Fiercely heavy guitars, pummelling drums and an overall destructive heaviness are key terms to describe this set.

There was even a very iconic cover of ‘Untouched’ by The Veronica’s performed with gutturals and crazy riffs, which had the crowd screaming along.

By reaching his target fundraising goal of $500 for Movember, Adrian took to the stage towards the end of Nightmarsh’s set and shaved off the majority of his very full beard.

It was an inspiring sight and really drove home the overall message of the night regarding raising awareness for men’s mental health, and how to better support your mates when they are going through a tough time.

The brutality continued on with Pendle Hill, taking to the stage in cloaks and hoods reminiscent of occultists.

Their stage presence was undeniable right from the beginning, setting the vibe not only through their outfits but also with an eerie and cryptic intro before

they got right into their set.

Melodic and dark with relentless domination, Pendle Hill delivered the pure essence of death metal through their energy and artistry.

From moshing with the audience to creating an atmosphere of sheer destruction, Pendle Hill absolutely crushed it.

To wrap up the night, metalcore magicians GLOW performed a set that was filled with raw aggression and emotive lyrics delivered with conviction.

With an overall toughness, crushing breakdowns and unrelenting heaviness, GLOW delivered a perfect send-off to a night filled with passion and amazing talent throughout.

Overall, the night was a massive success and everyone's hard work in organising and taking part in collaboration with Adrian's cause really showed.
