Solo Canberra-based artist JYN has just released his newest single ‘By The Fathers Not Here’; and it encapsulates the very meaning of the word “heavy”.

JYN pushes the limits of typical metalcore convention and demonstrates how dynamic and extensive heavy music can be, without definition or labels.

this song holds no punches right from the get go, opening with a DnB inspired drum loop that is quickly amplified by heavily melodic guitars and pummeling drums, carrying the track into moments of pure auditory devestation.
Pained piercing vocals drip with agony over the harsh instrumentals, with gutturals in the chorus providing even more raw catharsis to the track.
Dealing with themes of toxic masculinity, generational trauma and breaking cycles, 'By The Fathers Not Here' is heavy in both its depth and its sound.
Lyrics like “I hate what you’ve become” and “take me back to the kid I was” really drive home the idea of coming into your own strength when breaking cycles of trauma.

Being an independent songwriter and artist, this track is a total testament to JYN’s creative prowess. His sound is already assuredly distinctive and his ability to utilise ideas from a large range of different genres really makes him a force to be reckoned with.
I was really blown away by this track and thought it was absolutely insane (in the best way!) I will be looking forward to more music from JYN, hopefully coming soon!
Fans of early Bring Me The Horizon, The Amity Affliction and Polaris will definitely want to check JYN out!
