IT IS A RARE TIME THAT SOMEONE WHO LIVES IN TOOWOOMBA DOESN'T NEED TO TRAVEL TO BRISBANE FOR GOOD LIVE HEAVY MUSIC; BUT HERE I FOUND MYSELF, ON SATURDAY JULY 12 AT 6.30PM, A MEER TEN

ree

MINUTE DRIVE AWAY FROM SEEING TWO OF MY FAVOURITE UP AND COMING AUSTRALIAN BANDS. iNSECT released their two-track 'Neanderthal' a little over a month ago and grabbed a few of their friends to celebrate. I recently reviewed the two track and video debut for 'vermin' if you would like to check it out, you can read it here.

first up for the night was Brisbane local deathcore band roronoah. Roronoah will be releasing their debut EP 'accustomed to hurt' on july 25. To read a review

of their latest single, and third track on the ep, 'a vice like no other' follow the link.

it was interesting watching the boys go from their smiling, joking and gentle spoken selves at the merch table to the domineering force they become while they perform. hearing the quality of their performance, it is hard to believe they only have a little over 500 listeners on Spotify. Through the eight song set including "hush", "a vice like no other" and "let the cleaver swing" the crowd locked in creating a pit at the front of the room setting the tonne for the night.

second up, GOLD COAST HARDCORE band dEATHPROOF STORMED ONTO THE STAGE LEAVING NO PRISONERS. Their set start with their vocalist

performing from mid-pit with A COMBINATION OF NEW and OLD TRACKS INCUDING "No gods", "No cure" AND "ECHO CHAMBER" OFf THEIR EP "FORCED TO BELIEVE", RELEASED IN MAY THIS YEAR. From the first note the energy in the room sored, the crowd hooked and the fight pit was on. dEATHPROOF finished their seven song set with a call for an encore giving their new bassist a test.

third for the night was the Toowoomba local hardcore act triple lock. While not my type of music personally there is no denying that the band knows how to get the crowd moving

starting with a chant of "43 F**K THE 50". The six song set held the most chaotic energy of the night, including "this is Toowoomba, I want to see some Toowoomba shit" resulting in several people leaving the pit bruised and in one case missing three front teeth and a bloody mouth.

The performance included their two songs available on Spotify "pay ya tick" and "crime pays".

Ending the night was headliner INSECT, a BRISBANE/GOLD COAST harcore-metalcore blend who despite a caveman outward

expression, frontman Liam is probably one of the kindest and genuinely likeable people I have ever met, his face lighting up as he greeted me at the merch table. "HE'S GOT WHITE LEGS, BUT THEY'RE NOT BAD" he joked to me about himself on one walk past before disappearing into the crowd again. From the very beginning of their set the energy in the room turned fierce and animated, building further in intensity as the set continued. tHe crowd reached its peak as "runt of the litter" finished and beau frizzle (vocalist of deep leech) was called to the stage to perform his

duet of "vermin", and filling in for Aiden duke of deathrow for "neanderthal". To say the crowd went wild would be a severe understatement as the lyrics were screamed from stage and crowd alike. As the performance came to a close, the room filled with cheers and clapping, and I made my way back to the merch table to say my goodbyes, leaving the venue with my new merch and a want to watch the bands again at any available opportunity.
