Death Wobbles, the stomach-clenching sensation when your bike, skateboard, motorbike, or surfboard begins to shake and shiver underneath you, suddenly possessed, switching you from driver to passenger in a split second.

Almost everyone’s felt it once.

It’s that feeling that came for me when flying down a steep hill on a bike, your feet no-longer peddling as the pedals spin faster than your legs can pump them, instead they’re kicked out in front to avoid the plastic scrapping your heels, your hands tight on the handlebars, the gummy, gluey, rubber sticking to your palms, when the bike seems to jerk beneath you, shaking, shivering, wobbling.

It’s a desperate feeling, your hands clinging tight, arms tensed, doing everything in your power to keep the bike beneath you while it fights to fall. You can’t brake, if you hit the front brake you’ll go flying overboard, if you hit the back brake, you’re set to fishtail and fall even faster, all you can do is hope you’ll slow down soon.

Death Wobbles is that moment, that second on the precipice, where you know you’re doomed if you don’t slow down and all you can do is cling on, grit your teeth and hope to avoid the fall.

Gold Coast band HAMMERS’ latest single ‘DEATH WOBBLES’, captures that feeling through the lens of experiencing death wobbles whilst surfing or skating, and translating it to a broader emotional experience, that feeling of being right on the edge of fly or fall.

Lucas Stone, vocalist and guitarist of HAMMERS said of writing the track ‘Death Wobbles’:

“The song traverses the heaviness of life and our imminent mortality. Our topical experiences of love, hate, sex, violence, intention, outcome and how we generally work through all that tests us in order to rationalise our impending mortality while experiencing all we can - the best way possible - at the fore.”

The track is accompanied by a music video, directed by James Latter, and filmed in the iconic ‘Death Bowl’, a “skate institution” at Gold Coasts’ Pizzey Park. The video predominantly features the band performing in the bowl with “local skate/surf frothers and mates” skating through the shot. Latters’ video truly captures the scene from which HAMMERS was born. They are true-blue, Gold Coast, heavy metal.

‘Death Wobbles’ is the latest and titular track to be released ahead of their upcoming debut full album, ‘DEATH WOBBLES’. The album is slated to release January 23rd 2026 via their own independent label Summerland Records, and is set to feature previously released tracks such as ‘Traps’, ‘Top Fun’, and ‘Fucked Around & Found Out’. Plus 8 brand new, previously unreleased, tracks. All up giving us 12 blistering post-hardcore, alternative metal songs to look forward to.

‘DEATH WOBBLES’ the album began three years ago without any set path, only the shared band motto, ‘serve the song’.

“[I] had no idea where it was taking me, or us, just knew it had to be the best version of whatever it was I was doing.” Said Stone.

As a band, HAMMERS works on a basis of openness. They’re a group who seem to trust each other in skills, energy, and music.

“We operate on happiness, love and brotherhood. Not ego and non-inclusion.” Said Stone.

‘DEATH WOBBLES’ is a testament to this openness and lack of ego, as Stone says, the album writing process was “more insular and selfish than previous efforts, on my part.” Yet, the tracks thus far, have sounded full, well-rounded, cohesive and importantly, heavy. It’s a definite leap forward musically for HAMMERS and the fans are already rallying around them in support.

In 2024, HAMMERS completed a successful run of headline international shows in Japan and New Zealand, as well as supporting music heavyweights, He Is Legend, Mammal, and The Butterfly Effect. They’re not stopping there, however.

Their ‘Moment of Struth’ tour took Queensland heavy metal around the country, touring throughout October and November, and showcased both their playful, larrikin-like energy and “genuine craftsmanship" to create memorable and successful shows.

HAMMERS are rounding out the year supporting Aussie rock heroes ‘COG’ on their ‘Walk The Line’ Tour in the Sunshine Coast (Saturday 6 December), and COG’s hometown show in Byron Bay (Saturday 20 December). It’s a tour Aussie heavy music lovers truly don’t want to miss.

Death Wobbles, a feeling that fills you with terror, adrenaline, and panic, doesn’t always lead to a miserable fall. If you hold on tight enough, grit your teeth hard enough, and let the wobbles take their course, sometimes, sometimes, you pull through to the other side unscathed. And that feeling. Well, that’s pure euphoria, like you faced down death and won.

“I feel like where we are at globally as a species, we are straight-up mid Death Wobbles,” says Stone. “You’ve either had ‘em or you haven’t but yeah, IYKYK [If You Know, You Know].”
