eora/Sydney based nu-metalcore outfit broken earth have launched their new single "shiver", produced mixed and mastered by mark Williamson (inertia, cenobia).
the highly anticipated track is the first of the year, following a whirlwind 2025 for the 4 piece, sharing stages with for metalcore legends the ghost inside, bleed from within, and miss may I, as well as countless shows across the country and a far north Queensland run with local favs in diamond construct and diesect.
the song serves as the start of a new direction for the band, inspired by bands like Thornhill, spiritbox and vianova to create something different for them, but still true to their metalcore roots.
“We went into the studio with it being the most different to what we had done before and because of that it was the one that excited us the most, which is why it is the first of new material coming from us as we feel it is the strongest statement of this new direction.”
“We wanted to still bring that broken earth edge, that broken earth danger, mark helped us bring out some of that raw energy we like to convey, cause we didn't want to lose that in this new venture, but we wanted to really broaden our scope and our horizons, and show off what really makes us tick.”
-raphael smith, vocalist

right off the bat, you're met with a huge intro that instantly gets you hyped before transitioning into a steadier, more polished first verse and a catchy, memorable chorus that packs a punch.
the airy delivery of the vocals carries you through the emotional rollercoaster of infatuation, recounting the giddy, infectious feeling that consumes you when you feel chemistry with another person for the first time and how it feels to make that first move.
"Once we knew the lyrics needed to be more intimate, Mark helped us take the song in a more dynamic direction to reflect that, with a more open and airy chorus that's quite a bit softer than what we've done in the past"
"One of my favourite parts of the song is the Bridge. Raph came into the studio having written this interesting call and response vocal part between us for that takes the song in a different direction with more melody and energy. "
.-sebastian weir, drummer/vocalist
something I always find delightful when listening to this band is the contrast between raph and sebs vocals, and with the bridge of this song that call and response does just that, as well as adding an exciting new layer to the song as it gears up towards the breakdown.
overall I think shiver is a really well done song, I think the band are really good at translating the meaning of their songs though the music they're creating, backed up by an amazing team of people behind the scenes in both Mark Williamson producing the song and really polishing it up, making it the best it can be and also Colin Jeffs from ten of swords media backing it up with perfect visuals that really add to the aesthetic of the song.
“Working with Jeffs was so effortless. He really took our ideas and turned them up to 11. He was so switched on with everything we threw at him - especially working on the fly under very restrictive time constraints - we got so much achieved in such a short amount of time, we couldn’t be happier with how everything’s turned out ” - Smith

you can listen to "shiver" wherever you listen to music here and watch the video directed by Colin Jeffs (tenofswordsmedia) below.
the band will give shiver its live debut on the 16th of may at am//pm emo night Sydney alongside banks arcade and harroway. This will be an absolutely insane show, and with broken earth releasing singles of this calibre, this will not be a lineup you'll be able to see for 35 bucks much longer, so go see them tear the small stages up while you can. tickets can be found here.
