Released only a week or so ago, Fake News’ most recent single Southbound certainly packs a punch! It is fun, catchy and has the makings of a great summer anthem.

Hailing from Queensland, Fake News opened for Pennywise and Millencolin during their Australian tour last month, firmly establishing their position in the punk scene. They also recently got signed to an international record label, Thousand Island Records, which is a huge accomplishment.
Southbound opens with a catchy and melodic guitar riff which immediately brings the sound of late 90’s skate punk to mind. It’s fast paced and full of energy, with lyrics depicting a sunny vision of a weekend road trip. Fake News themselves discuss how the lyrics for the song were inspired by the band’s creative process, involving lead singer Tim’s commute south from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast in order to record vocals.

The encouraged way to listen to this song, as instructed by the lyrics is "music up with the windows down".
This track would fit right in playing in the background of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. It manages to capture the nostalgia of summer breezes, skateparks and JNCO jeans in a way that is vivid and hard-hitting.
Southbound is accompanied by a playful music video which really matches the vibe and mood of the track itself perfectly. It displays the camaraderie of the band members and demonstrates their strong bond. The track is essentially an ode to friendship, done in a way which is fun and refreshing.
Fake News are preparing to drop their next album Dead Set on May 7th, so keep an eye out on their Spotify or their official website for when it does! The track list for Dead Set is listed below.
