on Friday the 11th of July I made my way to see the sold out DISKUST headlined show at the p.f.r

lounge in brisbane with special guests totalBuzzKill, whisperhead and pyrokineses.
first up for the night was gold coast local hardcore-metalcore band pyrokinesis. The three piece, while supported from the crowd by their recently retired bass player, took to the stage with a combination of some of the funniest crowd commands I have seen and acrobatics. the five song set, including a performance of their to be
released track "holy water", the cutest little 10 pax circle pit the venue could afford and the crowd chanting "bad bad thing". If you get a chance to see Pyrokinesis I recommend you take it, but don't forget to wear your "sporty shoes".
You can find pyrokinesis on: spotify, apple music, facebook, instagram and youtube

second up, whisperhead as part of their sterilise tour (for more information follow the link). the dubbo born four piece stepped onto the stage with a whole list of names to take for their first sold out show. The six song set hit the ground running with clean and
tight drumming, extended held screams and strobe lighting to add the extra theatre. I watched in real times as guitarist Darcy turned from a quietly spoken chill dude to an absolute hair flipping beast, while performing inside of the pit itself. the set included their latest release "sterilise", crowd favourites "my game, my rules" and "hftc" aongside a rather remarkable cover of "breathe" by the prodigy.

Next up was the direct support, total BuzzKill. the four piece, up and coming metalcore band from Brisbane released their debut 10/10 album 'the start of something beautiful' in May this
year and therefore smashed out hit, after hit from the album in the forms of "false hopes", "dopamine", "wolves", "underdogs", "the matriarch" and latest single "empty words" amongst others, to a ruckus and riled up crowd. the boys put on an energetic and commanding performance with great crowd interaction that had the whole room moving and singing along.

finally was headliner diskust. unfortunately I had to leave four songs into their set but what I did get to witness was the most feral and
bloodthirsty energy I have seen brought to a local stage. the crowd immediately matched the tonne filling the space with the energy of 300. I reached out to DISKUST to request the set list and they obliged. while I did miss my personal favourite DISKUST song "scapegoat", I did manage to see "resurfaced", "broken" and "never have I ever". another result of me leaving early, meant that I also missed the performances of two new songs "god amongst men" and "skin cage". while I am sad I missed most of their twelve song set, I saw enough to know that I will definitely go out of my way if necessary to see them perform again.

there is one subject that I need to talk about that did sour our night somewhat, and I feel it is my duty to talk about it. I would like to make it known that our team has contacted the venue to make our concerns known. while the bands all performed admirably there were some issues that myself and Sam noted with the venue that could not be left untouched.
there was no security on sight at this venue, and with only two staff behind the bar (which was in a separate room) and the audio engineer in the room, there were several times where the crowd was getting out of hand for the size of the room and the amount of patrons inside that security really needed to be there. I had several people connected to the show express to me they didn't how they were going to fit the 130 people in the room because it was fit more for around 50.
at one point, because the venue was passing out
drinks in glasses, not plastic as a high risk venue must by Queensland law, one was shattered on the floor during a performance and myself and two other patrons were forced to clean the floor ourselves, picking up broken glass with our bare hands. when I personally took the broken glass to the bar and informed staff, it was removed from me and no staff member came to check on the situation or attempted to clean the now soaking floor that cover roughly one-third of the room. alongside that, despite it being an +18 event I didn't personally see anyone be, nore was I, carded for this event. I understand that staff were not the one's doing the ticket checking but it is their responsibility to make sure this action was being followed and it was not.
the final point that I will touch on was that the stage itself was broken and at least one band was unaware of the fact and another had issues falling into the hole during their set. this comes as a warning to bands and patrons alike to please keep yourselves safe while ingesting your latest live music fix.
DISKUST will be performing at drencher festival in south Geelong, victoria at the barwon club hotel on Saturday the 6th of September, opening at 3pm. for tickets you can follow the link below, at only $50 each it is a steal:
