DIESECT are back with their third EP 'hide from the light'. the Brisbane/gold coast metalcore band have been making waves since entering the scene, earning themselves a signing to GREYSCALE records. "The EP thematically tells the story of an individual gradually losing faith or hope in being able to heal, until the desire to try passes and they are wilfully consumed by the negative."
along with the ep release, came the announcement of a headline tour, starting in Perth on Thursday the 21st of August. if you are unable to wait that long, and you live in Queensland, you can catch DIESECT on tour with 'make them suffer' from June 12th to the 15th.

"hide from the light" opens with the self titled song and an artificial female voice that will have your reeling.
“I wonder if that is how darkness wins, by convincing us to trap it inside ourselves, instead of emptying it out, empty it out, empty the darkness out, I don't want it to win”. you will find yourself thrown immediately into hard hitting drums, chaotic guitars and vocals and lyrics showcasing probably the best representation of what it feels like to have depression I have heard. "hide from the f**king light".
two-step your way into "too many scars". if chunky guitars, effect pedals, non-stop drums and heavy breakdowns are your jam, this is the song for you. relentless from the beginning, you will be knocked wall to wall all the way to the end. too many scars hit hard on the theme of betrayal and the inability to heal from that. "I just need a break, Got too much s**t I regret, Too many knives deep in the spine that I've been trying to mend, (I've gotta face) the bitter taste of betrayal, I've got another pill to swallow and it's kind of painful".

next up is "pretty much dead". while the themes of this EP are all in all "darker", pretty much dead feels instantly heavier in tone.
the middle of the holds the same feeling of "...and then she bled" by suicide silence, in the way the female voice is low behind the instrumentals, it is unnerving and keeps you on the edge of your seat. the willingness to fight is starting to slip away.
"This story is told chronologically through each song on the project, with the opening and closing tracks intended to serve as mirrors of each other to convey the final message of the story; if you choose to hide from the light, you in turn will suffer in the dark."
"shura" is an assault to the ears in the best possible way. first time listening to the track it felt like I was standing too close to the speakers at a concert, but that feels on theme with what the song is. pressure. self pressure

to push through the difficult situations and to start healing and knowing you are doing it all alone. this song feels like it is the point of no return, do you head towards the light or do you stay with the darkness, frigid cold and crushing loneliness? "There's only bones in the shape of me, Nothing but a shell and nothing more you can take from me, What's the point in looking back on the memories? South of Heaven, Only surrounded by my enemies"
to which the answer is "there was never light". this track gets you with an unsettling slow build, that will have you in a horror movie scene, with almost metallic tones to the instruments.; before throwing you head first into the filthiest breakdown. the changing of the tapes and the robotic voice at the very end, had me feeling genuinely on edge, like I was waiting to hear a messed up audio track of a murder. "maybe there was never f**king light".

unhinged. oppressive. committing to the downward spiral and keeping yourself there. "suffer in the dark" will have you feeling like you will never have the possibility of seeing a pinprick of light again. "there is nothing left but the cold". the song takes you through so many shifts and emotions, that you will think you are unravelling. the general sound is dirtier, darker and crippling. it feels like an anthem of those who will never feel like enough. "the truth is I can never be what you need, try to be for everyone else and there's nothing for me."
