Cultists new single: drop dead
Deathcore fans! Are you a fan of bands such as:
Chelsea Grin
Carnifex
Shadow of Intent
Fit for an autopsy
to the grave
If your answer was yes to any of them, have i got the next song for your deathcore playlist.
Featuring alex koehler, formerly from chelsea grin, cultists have just dropped their heavy monstrosity which is 'drop dead'.
The song starts out and instantly, we are hit with an eerie intro and straight into a chuggy and heavy riff. The first scream then comes, and the rest of the band is introduced creating an instant stank face.
From here, cultists waste no time showing us what they have on offer. The full song is packed to the brim with absolutely crushing riffs, filthy vocals and a dark cinematic atmosphere which makes you feel like you are stepping into a horror film.
With a massive feature from alex koehler (former chelsea grin vocalist, current vocalist of ameonna), the track feels like a true match made in deathcore heaven and a huge one at that for the aussie scene. Given chelsea grin's influence on cultists' genre, seeing alex involved makes this an especially exciting collab for fans of that classic deathcore sound that we all know and love.
According to the band, the track actually draws inspiration from the grudge and the japanese folklore figure of the onryō.

A vengful spirit born from intense suffering an injustice. This influence gives the track a much darker narrative , which explores what happens when grief and trauma spiral out of control, becoming more sinister.
The story follows a husband whose actions lead to the destruction of the woman he loves, only for her to return as a vengeful spirit. it is such an unsettling concept and yet it fits the tracks atmosphere so well. What also makes the track interesting is the deeper meaning behind all that horror. beneath these elements of the supernatural and revenge, lies a story about resilience, transformation and rebuilding yourself after trauma. As Liam solway explains, the core of drop dead is about taking the thing that broke you and turning it into something that makes you stronger.

Obviously we cannot be doing a deathcore review without mentioning the breakdown. This track delivers filthy, dirty, disgusting moments that make you pull that classic stank face that would scare the sh*t out of your family if they were to walk in on you listening at the wrong time. This is the kind of track that I cannot wait to here live and see a completely chaotic wall of death to accompany it.
For my final thoughts, drop dead incorporates everything that i love about deathcore: Powerful storytelling & Lyricism, crushing riffs, filthy vocals, punishing breakdowns and an atmosphere that feels like more that just music.
