canberra's own progressive metalcore act VITRIARCH, previously known as TSUNAMI PUNCHER, dropped their debut EP MYTHOS back in june - and they're firing on all cylinders! through the lens of divinity, 'blood lust' is a leading anthem from mythos - the perfect song to get any lazy crowd pumped up!

Opening up with powerful guitar strokes and an epic scale, it is almost as though it is looming straight over you before 'blood lust' becomes a consuming wall of sound. The drumming for the first few bars of tickles my ears something fierce. The snare beats immediately stand out. Perhaps just where they’re placed in the beat, a bit untraditional in nature, I have no idea, but I like it.
The guitars through the verses are snappy, the tone and intention kind of remind me of some late 2000s slipknot riffs - but maybe that is a hot take. they occasionally running along scales with little riffs that spice it up along the way, so you have a few places that you can arms-folded-foot-tap to, but pull away for a less flavoursome chorus.
This creates a great placemat for the overlaying vocals of "you want to be a hero, here i stand and here i die" is a lyric i'd defiantly cry out from the pit - the following layered “blood lust” chants are perfect for avid audience participation. the layering of the vocals across the chorus, the clean and harshes compliment each other really well, and give you something to latch onto depending on your singing style.
vitriarch find a way to step up the intensity across the bridge - vocals become even more hostile, which immediately becomes a stand out in terms of the vocal work across the mythos EP in its entirety. Everything is loud and fast paced, a heavy river that takes us directly into the last chorus. I think this change up inserts an interesting dynamic of the song by breaking up the standard verse-chorus pattern. I hope this particular moment is something that vitriarch continue to explore.
let 'Blood Lust' be a taste of what potential vitriarch hold - and then check out their debut ep, mythos!
keep tabs on vitriarch to see what they are going to do next!!
