prepare yourself because if feel good upbeat post-hardcore is your vibe, this is the song for you. Grizzlyshark are an up & coming Brisbane local five piece that are putting themselves in position to do great things. after a lineup change, vocalist Andrew and guitarist joey welcomed in jackson on guitar (Strange Fiction), Sean on drums (Oldtown, Lifeblood), and Nik on bass (Atlas and the Attic), breathing new life into the band, while keeping the core elements of the

discography preceding the change. Grizzlyshark debuted on the scene in 2018 with their single "game over" and have since released several singles and their EP "mosaic" in 2022.

"waiting for y2k" is the perfect title for this track. upon first listen It gave me the feeling of when I was in my late teens-early twenties going to soundwave music festival and being consumed by the sound of several bands blasting in my ears at the same time while standing on the tarmac of the Brisbane sHOWGROUNDS. a total nostalgia bomb for sure in vibes alone. "I can't sit still anymore, As the city soars, And the clouds, they come crashing around me, Hit me up with that knockout, And

ree

then pleasantly phase out, Invite the twilight into the conscience".

Grizzlyshark spoke on the creation of their track "waiting for y2k":

"This song honestly came together with a drum beat and a random riff. We had all been listening to Glow On by Turnstile and the latest Four Year Strong album and tried to add elements into the song. With the intensity and flare of Turnstile and the bold hooks and guitar work of Four Year Strong, we found ourselves with a song that was as ferocious as it was infectious. Lyrically, it started with one line of the chorus that was built on. Donald

ree

Trump had just won the election and we were miffed about that. At the same time, our vocalist was watching a bunch of Bionicle lore videos. The heroes in that franchise constantly got knocked down, found their cause to be futile or perilous but got back up and carried on with what they believed was right. Inspired me to not be discouraged by the election and that strangely enough found its way into the lyrics. Ultimately, the song is about persevering through adversity while trying to keep your collective cool."

The musicality and vocals do a great job of taking you through the chaos of the inspiration at the beginning of the track

ree

before the shift to "f**k it" let's just have fun and make this s**t happen mentality. the band push the narrative further through the use of the loose but addictive sounds of the bass, crispy and not over complicated drums, head bobbing guitars and smooth vocals. all-in-all it gives the feeling of y2k era sum 41, rise against and the living end with a splash of the political frustration of silverchair. you cannot go wrong or ask for more. "I want to see it, See that devil inside of your ego, Yeah, Show me that starlight, See the twinkle behind both of your eyes, And I feel like this could be the one, one way out of here, I don't need to see it

ree

fall apart, I'll just watch it disappear, Why don't you fake it, Never will erase it, Sitting and wasting"

the official video all takes place within one room. the film clip steps you right back into 2000s myspace era with a camera circling in the middle of the room, as the band members interchange between instruments, two-step, dance in circles and in general jam to their own tune. They have managed to make a small space entertaining to watch and it is nice to see that the boys appeared to be having a lot of fun making the video. "Alright, I've been feeling idle lately, I think it's time to see them dance, dance, dance, dance, And I feel like this could be the one, one way out of here, I don't need to see it fall apart, I'll just watch it disappear, And I feel like this could be my one way, one way out of here, I don't need to see it come apart, I'll just wait until it clears"
