Alright friends, time to talk about a band that’s been holding it down in the heavy scene for well over a decade. Volumes.

If you’ve been hanging in the metalcore scene, you already know the name. Coming out of La back in 2009 (elder emo, rise up!) Volumes built a rep for blending that groovy, djent driven sound with real emotion. They’ve always had this knack for balancing filthy riffs with melodic atmosphere like one minute you’re getting your head ripped off, the next you’re floating in space. Their debut Via and follow up No Sleep were staples for anyone who lived on the fringes of metalcore and prog. And after lineup shifts, some chaos, and a few years of rebuilding, the band found their footing again with Happier? in 2021, a proper reminder of why people fell in love with them in the first place.

Now they’re back with a new album called Mirror Touch, dropping digitally on December 12 through Fearless Records, and hitting stores physically on February 27. The first taste of this new chapter is their single S.O.A.P., and holy hell... it’s heavy.

From the first riff, it feels like a full sensory assault. Crunchy industrial tones, that classic dual vocal tag team between Michael Barr and Myke Terry, and a breakdown that sounds like Terminator 2’s T-1000 morphing into a wall of guitars. It’s mechanical, it’s mean, and it’s packed with that confidence Volumes have been slowly building toward for years.

The band said S.O.A.P. is about “pure and impure indulgence, good versus evil, playing with fire or magic.” Basically, that internal tug of war between the things that feel right and the things that definitely aren’t. It’s the perfect lyrical theme for Volumes, self aware, dark, and a bit dangerous.

It’s wild to think these guys have been doing it for 15 years. Through lineup changes, personal loss, and all the ups and downs that come with being in a heavy band this long, they’ve managed to keep evolving without ever losing that core groove that made them stand out in the first place. They’ve toured with everyone from Ice Nine Kills to Dance Gavin Dance, and every time, they’ve proven why they’ve earned their place in modern metal’s DNA.

And with Mirror Touch, it honestly feels like they’re stepping into their most refined era yet. The production is massive, the riffs are thicker than ever, and the energy? Completely unhinged.

Here’s the full tracklist so you can start guessing which one’s going to destroy the pit first:

  1. Sidewinder

  2. Bottom Dollar

  3. Bad Habit

  4. California

  5. Adrenaline

  6. Stitch

  7. S.O.A.P.

  8. Dream

  9. Worth It

  10. Suffer On (feat. Black Sheep Wall)

If you’ve ever been a Volumes fan, this is one to circle on your calendar. If you’re new, welcome, and strap in. Mirror Touch looks like it’s about to be one of the heaviest, most honest records they’ve ever put out.

S.O.A.P. is out now, so crank it up and get your fix before the full album hits.
