Vinewood Rally - 'Lydia' Single Review

If you’re looking for a song that perfectly encapsulates that nostalgic feel of 2000s alternative rock, while still feeling modern and relatable, Vinewood Rally have you covered with their brand new song ‘Lydia’.

From the outskirts of Western Sydney, Vinewood Rally are a three-piece rock band that take inspiration from the rawness of post-grunge and the attitude of early 2000s alt-rock. With ‘Lydia’, these guys draw from the sounds of bands like Violent Soho, Grinspoon, Linkin Park, Sum 41 and System Of A Down, while still keeping it sounding fresh and original.

‘Lydia’ can be described as a cynical ode to suffering, telling the story of a toxic relationship and the turbulent dynamic around that kind of push-pull dynamic. Bold hooks, gritty riffs and punchy lyrics give the song a really anthemic feel.

If you had an emo older brother in the early 2000s who was going through a breakup, he would definitely be blasting this song in his bedroom (lol).

The chorus itself is also super infectious and catchy, with the lines “You got Invidia so f*ck you Lydia/ I'm doing fine you're not worth my time/ Lydia” being really memorable throughout the track.

'Lydia' climbs to a hardcore-inspired breakdown just before the final chorus, which is the perfect cherry-on-top of this raw aggression and f*ck you energy that has been building up. This was probably my favourite moment in the song and it definitely amplified the overall energy and Explosiveness.
