Sage is a punk-duo from Naarm (Melbourne), consisting of trans frontwoman Sage and drummer Jareth Hammet. Making their debut only last year, These guys are absolutely electric live, with Sage bringing some absolutely unhinged and brutal punk rock energy to her performances.

‘Vagrant’ is inspired through Sage’s lived experience as a punk artist, as well as her trans identity. Sage herself states that: "Vagrant is a call to arms for punks everywhere".

Right off the bat, this song is catchy as hell, with intoxicating riffs and a rhythmic bassline forming the heartbeat of the track. Sage’s signature banshee wails and guttural vocals deliver lines like “I can be something/ I can be nothing to you/ I’ll always be nothing to you” with absolutely destructive power and rage.

By the halfway point, the momentum of the song builds to a moment of absolute shreddage, with screaming guitars and accelerating rhythms. This moment is the backdrop to a tonal change where Sage, with a raw and pained inflection, addresses those who have doubted or looked down on her. This emotionally charged moment is empowering and cathartic, and I personally found it really impactful.
