Paradise Lost have released their third single from their upcoming album, and it is a deeply melancholic goth-metal opus.
‘Tyrants Serenade’ is a gothic ode to lamentation, loss and aching. Combining heavy doom riffs with ascending guitar melodies, a heavy and emotionally charged sound is created. Paradise Lost’s signature heaviness is maintained whilst an intoxicating mist of introspection enshrouds the track.

Juxtaposing vocals deliver pained lyrics, alternating between rough and melodic. The contrast between vocals add to the overall tone of the track, demonstrating both the darker and more cathartic aspects. There is something really heart-wrenching about this track, a beauty that comes to light within its darkness.
When discussing ‘Tyrants Serenade’, vocalist Nick Holmes states that
"observing the death of an individual, and subsequently, how the transition of seasons evokes fond memories” provided inspiration for the track.
‘Tyrants Serenade’ is accompanied by a haunting music video that was directed by Ash Pears (HOST, BLOODBATH, KATATONIA). You can watch it below!
Paradise Lost’s 17th album ‘Ascension’ will drop on September 19th from Nuclear Blast Records. With more than three decades under the band's belts, I am very excited to see how this album maintains the group’s signature sound whilst also expanding upon what makes them so iconic.
