Imagine that rise against, The Cat Empire and Panic! At the disco had a baby. It's funky, it's rock, it has... horns? This is Modus Fire and this is their newest track overreacted.

The track hits you immediately with "God damn, I'm overreactin'" as our vocalist's raspy introduction penetrates your ear drums. Just as you think 'ah, a classic rock anthem' you're introduced to clean vocals set against fast-paced drums, rhythmic bass guitar and lively brass instruments. It's a smorgasbord of sounds, but it comes together perfectly. The vocal harmonies come in and carry us through a very catchy chorus. When you hear "but it's over, yes it's over" you may be reminded of the vocal stylings of Brendon Urie (Panic! At the disco). In an interview I conducted with lead vocalist Tom Fisher he told us that he wanted to produce a song that was "singable" for the audience; one that the audience could engage with. Mission accomplished with this track! This track is easy to sing along to, with a chorus that will get stuck in your head.

Modus Fire are from Sydney, Australia and describe themselves as a "prog-punk band with a punchy horn section" (modus fire official site). The band began performing in 2022 after forming in 2020 and have started touring interstate this year. Their debut LP "The Weary & The Wise" releases this July and Tom has told us that overreacted is in the middle range of what we can expect from the album. It's always refreshing to see a band who are genuinely passionate about both the music they produce and the alternative music scene. Tom is passionate about encouraging a supportive and growing gig culture in the modern day. If you're looking for a genuinely great band to support - these are your people!

Trumpets and Trombones are not what you'd usually expect to hear against electric guitar, but overreacted brings these instruments together seamlessly and the use of horns continues throughout Modus Fire's work. With electric riffs, surprising twists and a whole lot of passion for their craft Modus Fire is a band you should be adding to your playlist immediately.

Modus Fire are playing upcoming shows on Saturday 17th May at the Botany View Hotel, Newtown, and Saturday 31st May at the Oxford Art Factory, Darlinghurst. Tickets and merch can be bought here, Keep your eyes and ears peeled for the release of their latest album "the weary and the wise" dropping July 2025.
