Industrial “cum-metal” trio HEALTH have released the third new single from their upcoming album 'CONFLICT DLC'.
Melancholic yet undoubtedly heavy, this track is the epitome of what makes HEALTH unparalleled. 'THOUGHT LEADER' is an exploration of “digital isolation, cynicism, and emotional numbness in the modern age”. The noise of society is portrayed through melodic guitars and beating drums layered over HEALTH’S heavy synth pulses.
There is an air of haunting and ache in this song that is presented through Jake Duzsik’s vocals. Softly crushing and delicate over the harsher instrumentals, Duzsik’s voice in this song is absolutely remarkable and impactful.
Everything about 'THOUGHT LEADER' embodies the concept of cacophony. Through reflecting on the current state of the world, in the context of being “trapped in a loop of screens, self-doubt, and consumer emptiness”, this track expresses existential angst in a powerful way.
‘THOUGHT LEADER’ takes commiseration and the premise that “everyone is dumb”, but ultimately concludes with the statement that “YOU WILL LOVE EACH OTHER”.
As a massive HEALTH fan, ‘THOUGHT LEADER’ is HEALTH at their most prominent. In addition to ‘VIBE COP’ and ‘ORDINARY LOSS’ I think ‘CONFLICT DLC’ will be one of their most significant albums yet.
