After 3 long years, the band that helped raise a generation is back in Aus and we had the honor of capturing their Newcastle show at bar on the hill.
I have a lot to say
...but tdlr best night eva!!!
not only is this tour hitting all capital cities and a couple of regionals too! (appreciated <3 )
This was such a great line up, with our Melbourne friends The Gloom In The Corner, Arizona's The Word Alive and Escape The Fate.
You couldn't pick a better line up than this. SO many people were telling me they wished Patient Sixty-Seven was on the bill as well.
Perth! You're in for a good time!
The Gloom In The Corner
melbourne, Australia
I will never get over this band. The stage presence, mikey's fabulous outfits, the breakdowns. it was the perfect choice to get the crowd hyped for what's to come.
This was the best set i've seen from Gloom. from the lighting being on point to mikey's incredible vocals. I was looking over in the crowd and i think it's safe to say they have some new fans.
One thing that i personally always appreciate is crowd engagement. it feels more intimate that way and they did it perfectly. my fav? we got a 'happy pride month'
ending the set with Assassination Run and calling for a mosh. perfection.
We're ready and fired up for the night.
The Word Alive
US (ARIZONA)
oh how i love the word alive!, the history with Craig Mabbitt, their creativity, their sound. It's one of my favourite metalcore bands from overseas.
devin (drums) entering the stage screaming encouragment with full chest. You could hear it from way in the back. Insane!
they had i believe 9 songs on the setlist including one of my favourites. one of us ft bad omens.
Whoever is running the lighting that night. a huge appreciation for you cause again, it was so good! the way it tied in with the breakdowns and more subtle moments with clean vocals was super impressive!
i counted 6 'can i get a hell yeah?' and 2 'can i get a fuck yeah?' and yes, the crowd were loud af back!
this was my first time seeing them live and to say that my first impression of them was literally one of the biggest highlights of my life.....would be an understatement.
i'm serious. i'll explain more below.
they did their iconic cover of heartless which got everybody so hyped!
A sweet moment with the crowd was acknowledging the fans that are travelling australia with them, attending every single show. It truly makes my heart melt.
they were so active on stage. We all know that the bar on the hill stage is quite small but they made it work.
I could not recommend not just seeing these guys live but meeting them. They hung by the merch table after their set and they are the sweetest people and are so kind to their supporters.
If they're reading this, thank you for everything you do. Keen to see more from you guys! i hope you enjoy this review lol :)
now i could be wrong but did i hear a buddy holly moment?
ESCAPE THE FATE us (las vegas)
another thing i love is when bands get theatrical with their intros. it really brings out the nerd in me. i did a quick lap of the venue and everyone's swarming in.
they kicked it off with ungrateful followed by some hits like ashley, this war is ours, ten miles wide and they newly released song idle potential. closing the set with one for the money
i did hear that craig injured his voice at the Sydney show but honestly, i couldn't tell cause he sounded fantastic! we got some sweet up close shots where you can hear his incredible voice.
what really got the crowd giddy was when they said that they should come back to Australia with a mega tour and do 3 shows in each city. uhhhhm. yes, i support that, we support that.
for the encore we got a sweet solo from matti, all the phones were up to capture this insane moment.
you just don't get guitar solos at metal concerts that much anymore.
we need to bring them back. All my guitar friends would not shut up about it all night.
this show.. hell, this tour has gotten so many of us excited. Throwback tours, bands from our childhood and teens are here and thriving!
it's all about the eras.
this tour is not even halfway done!
melbourne, perth and adelaide. you're up next and you better bring the energy cause this tour is one of the greatest we've had in a while!
make sure you check out their merch, you might be pleasantly surprised with what you find!
catch the support acts, support our local scene and let's keep it alive!
