I’m going to admit, I was nervous. When I started listening to East York’s new single, 'Medicine', I was hit by the immediate wave of dance beats and electronic sounds and I was worried that I was facing my arch-nemesis of genres – techno. East York had told us that they were delivering a “crushing, groove-driven” anthemic rock track with “immersive sonic depth” and they quickly settled my fears and opened up my eyes to a whole new style with this new release.

Released on 28th March, 2025 ‘Medicine’ doesn’t beat around the bush. The song tells you that it’s catchy as soon as it starts. With immediate vocals accompanied by electric beats, vocal harmonies and then the introduction of electric guitar, the song gives off an instantaneous buzz. What I loved about this track was that it went in so many different directions. The start makes you feel like you’re dancing in a club; the chorus has you feeling like you’re swaying in a stadium and the fast-paced heavy vocals of verse two have you saying “oh, hell yeah!”. There is a build-up to each chorus, which adds to the energy that the chorus delivers. “Bring me my medicine” is a repetitive hook that you’ll find yourself yelling out as the track plays. The ending of the track is high-impact, with drums, guitar and vocals giving it their absolute all.

East York are an Aussie anthemic heavy rock band who formed in Melbourne in 2020. They’ve spent the past year honing their craft in anticipation of this new release. The track was produced by Clint Murphy (Enter Shikari, Blindspott, Devilskin), accompanied by a music video directed by Joe Murdie (Bunker Street Film Co.), and is described as East York at their “most evolved”.

I have to give props to East York here because it’s smooth sailing when you hear the intro to a song and instantly mesh with it, but it’s EVEN more impressive when you’re unsure of a track at first, but the band CARRIES you through it, introduces you to something new and engages you in styles that you wouldn’t have envisioned yourself enjoying SO MUCH BEFORE. East York had stated that they were going to capture “the push and pull of inner chaos and redemption” with this track, and they’ve definitely accomplished this!
