the warehouse at king street is one of my fav venues. the layout, the seating, no barricade. it's perfect. this gig really showed that.

i have been waiting a hot minute for this tour to finally reach my neck of the woods and i was left with some new fav bands added to my list and some great friendships with the boys of albury band, arkangel.

central coast hardcore

the first band on the list was central coast crossover hardcore band Desperate Cry.

okay, holy shit! these guys are insanely good. before their set i saw the vocalist, ezra go around the venue handing out these really cool flyers about his band and his new label, off the leash records.

they sound amazing, their stage presence was impressive and the structure of their songs and how it paired so well with their set was really enjoyable. there wasn't a minute that went by where i was not blown away with how incredibly talented these guys are for a very small band. i genuinely see these guys touring with speed one day.

central coast metalcore

sounds like thrown, alpha wolf, kublai khan tx

holy stage presence, batman! this group is ready for arenas. the coordination, the two stepping while playing bass, the crowd interaction. i was so impressed with how conspire was giving 100% from start to finish.

as they should.

this got the crowd really fired up and ready for what's to come. their metalcore cover of one step closer by linkin park was fire. i highly recommend catching these guys live. you will not be dissapointed.

sydney hardcore

sounds like chelsea grin, suicide silence, knocked loose (honk honk)

my shaylaaaaa's

what a show!

liam the vocalist is a mad man in the best way possible. i've never seen a vocalist move around so much and completely lose themself in the music and still sound that good live. all together, this band is hard to top when it comes to energy. their sound, presence and attitude is top tier.

cultists are a crew fav here at hot & heavy, these guys are such a great band from the community and deserves the recognition. from their lyrics to their live shows, this band is going places!

albury deathcore

sounds like lorna shore, fit for an autopsy, make them suffer, brand of sacrifice

this was such a good performance rom arkangel. again, stage presence was amazing. the lighting as well really tied well with their dark and haunting aesthetic.

the crowd interaction was intimate. so intimate, vocalist jake was outside the venue trying the get the local's who definitely have not heard of deathcore before inside to see their show. they all come running in and having the time of their lives and i genuiely think we got some little baby metalheads blooming cause of it. a job well done, i say!

jake went into the pit around 7 times. he cannot be stopped. running around, hyping up the crowd, climbing walls. ugh it was just a beautiful sight to see.

these boys have put so much work into this tour and it doesn't go unnoticed. i got to sit down with them over some burritos and we talked about how this tour was created and what blew me away was how they created everything. seriously everything.

the bookings, outfits, travel, everything was mostly done by jake and you can tell how passionate he is about it. it's bittersweet to see smaller bands do all the work and get swept under the rug by larger agencies. arkangel has everything down from their aesthetic, motives, sound.. hell even their outfits. they look like rockstars! they're destined to be one of the most succesful bands to come out of australia metal. mark. my. words.

Overall, this show was so much fun. it was a great atmosphere and i cannot stress enough how much i appreciate the hard work that goes behind the scenes of these tours from smaller artists/bands. everything is self funded from the bookingsm travel, accommodation, equipment, merch etc.

it's all done by the bands and this is why supporting the local scene is so important cause we need to push these bands like the ones above to help keep the scene alive.

buy the tickets, attend the gigs (going along is fun too! i do it all the time), meet the bands and have fun!

arkfest iii

Now let's talk about arkfest. their very own festival.

arkfest iii returns on may 30th at sodens hotel, albury. this years line up showcases the next gen of australian metal.

co headlined by arkangel and canberra's st. sinner alongside some amazing supports by east capri, diskust, silverfang, i choose violence, deathbeds and chapel hill. this fest is going to be HUGE!

if you're around, i suggest you grab a ticket and go experience some of australia's best metal bands.
