Deathcore giants Whitechapel released their 9th studio album "Hyms in Dissonance" on March 7th and in my personal opinion it is a contender for album of the year. Whitechapel

have unleashed their third music video in the form of the first track off of the album, "Prisoner 666".
"The album follows the story of a cultist who is gathering worthy people to join his cult," Wade furthers, "and there are moments in the story line where the cult followers are singing an evil hymn to open a portal for the head cultist to enter." The

band's dynamic, brutal musicality serves as a soundtrack to the compelling lyrical story that vocalist Phil Bozeman vividly imagines. "Hymns in Dissonance is a mockery of the true nature of what hymns are," Bozeman explains. "Hymns are melodious and harmonious. Dissonance is the opposite of melody and harmony. Dissonance represents evil. The tracks on the record are the hymns, which represent the seven deadly

sins, beginning from Track 3 to Track 10. Tracks one and two are the introduction." - via metalblade.com
'Prisoner 666' takes place over three live performances which have been artfully spliced throughout the length of the song. the use of crowd footage perfectly sets the scene for the concept of cult followers singing an evil hymn to open a portal for the leader. The footage shows the crowd screaming along to the lyrics, throwing up the devil horns, crowd surfing and causing a general ruckus amongst
the pit, in front of the performing band and large illustrations of cult figures. The addition of the mask by vocalist Phil ties the whole concept together beautifully, putting him at the forefront and acting as the voice of the head cultist. the imagery is powerful and it fits in incredibly well with the near cult-like attitude of Whitechapel fans. as a devotee of this band from their debut album "somatic defilement", I fully understand the fervour that they extract from heavy music enthusiasts, and are therefore the perfect backdrop for this album and video.
Whitechapel will be on a mammoth American tour from November 12 - December 14th, where they will perform 'Hymns in Dissonance' in its entirety. The tour will feature special guest bodysnatcher, angelmaker and disembodied tyrant.
