UNWELL, the explosive pop-punk from Detroit, has officially announced an album under Pure Noise Records. Titled ‘Allegoria’, the emotionally charged record will be released on November 7, and the band is wasting no time making waves with the premiere of their gripping first single and music video, “Miracle”, available to stream now.

The band is known for blending muscular alt-rock energy, pop-punk creative and vibrant hooks, and the edge of hardcore. UNWELL’s new era with ‘Allegoria’ is an ambitious concept album that both sonically and visually transcends boundaries.

“Allegoria is a world of symbols—a collection of stories where each song stands as its own parable,” shares vocalist Matt Copley. “We wanted this album to feel like stepping into a medieval tapestry woven with modern wounds: love, loss, power, addiction, and the search for redemption. Every track is its own relic, dressed in vintage tones and ancient language, but carrying emotions that are still bleeding today. It’s not just an album—it’s a living anthology.”

Who are they?

Formed in 2020, UNWELL began as an unlikely union of passions when Copley, a musical theater student, asked bassist Drew Bender to help him record a thesis project. With further collaboration from guitarist Chris Mandel and drummer Connor McLaughlin, the band began to curate their sound with a debut EP, ‘New Moons’, in 2021.

A core aspect to UNWELL is their diversity of sound and inspiration. “Our influences span from Broadway to hardcore, so figuring out how to bring all of these into our sound has offered us a lot of opportunity in terms of the songs we’re able to write.” An integral part of ‘Allegoria’ where orchestral intros and tectonic breakdowns coexist.

A Visual and Emotional Journey

"Miracle is about the quiet desperation of wanting to be loved,” says Copley. “It’s a plea for closeness—for someone to stay just a little longer, not because they have to, but because they want to. It’s vulnerable, cold in places, but wrapped in warmth too. At its core, it’s about how being wanted can feel like a miracle all on its own.”

‘Allegoria’ is a visual album, one that unfolds in a mystic realm of medieval futurism. Complete with gothic castles, cascading waterfalls and opulent thrones under the vast expanse of the universe. While not a concept album in the traditional sense, the record is unified by allegorical themes and emotional lessons drawn from real life. Within the world UNWELL is building, a cinematic story is being enumerated to the listener; It’s a land of make-believe that’s helped UNWELL tell their truest stories as artists.

What’s next

“This album has been a long time coming, and we really hope we are able to get back in the studio sooner than later,” Copley says. “At the same time, we’re so proud of what we’ve created, so we’re just looking to keep the ball rolling however we can.”

With ‘Allegoria’, UNWELL invites listeners into a world that may not be real but the emotions within it absolutely are. The gates are open, and the journey has only just begun.
