The Pretty Reckless are Pretty Ready for the Holiday season

Ho Ho How ready are you for Christmas? 

Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless are well and truly gearing up for the holidays with a fresh Christmas song and holiday EP on the way that rock fans can really get behind. 

Taylor Momsen, front-woman of The Pretty Reckless, began her career as a child-actor and delivered one very memorable performance as none other than Cindy Lou Who in How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). This October, Momsen revisits her infamous song ‘Where Are You Christmas?’ 25 years later with that Pretty Reckless rock and roll edge. 

What was once a bittersweet, saccharine, and classic Christmas ballad has been transformed. As Momsen’s childhood performance shifts to her adult vocals the band kicks in, pushing aside soaring violins, gentle piano and classical vocals for pacier heavy drums, a ripping guitar solo and Momsen’s famously raspy, drawling, rock and roll vocals.

This new version of the song gives Christmas music a much desired genre change yet maintains the Christmas-y sleighbells, piano and harp sounds you crave as the year winds down. 

Momsen said of the decision to revisit ‘Where Are You Christmas?’:

“Recording it now, with all the life I’ve lived in between, I hear it through a different lens…but the heart of it is the same. It’s about wonder, hope, and holding on to the magic - something I think we need more than ever."

It’s a nostalgia hit for those who remember Momsen only as the ‘little girl from the Grinch’, yet still gives that punchy, rough and fun performance The Pretty Reckless and Momsen are currently (and for the past 20 years) known for. It’s a refreshing embrace of her childhood career whilst melding it magically with her present and future. 

The Pretty Reckless have given heavy music fans yet another song to slip into the work or family Christmas playlist and give our ears a respite from the sickly sweet ballads (frustratingly catchy as they are). But, they haven’t given us only one song. 

‘Where Are You Christmas?’ is just one of five new original holiday songs from the upcoming Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas EP which is set for an ironic Halloween release (October 31st) digitally, and a physical release November 14th via Fearless Records. 

That’s news that should please even the Grinchiest amongst us.
