Brisbane based post-punk six piece My Friend Chloe are back in 2026, with a mesmerising new track that explores the very idea of what it means to grieve.

Described by the band as “post-punk for the dance floor”, 'Grief' is like if The Prodigy travelled back in time to the 70’s for song inspo.
Taking listeners through a psychedelic post-punk haze, a hypnotic bassline is layered with dual floating synths and distorted guitars that weave into the sonic texture. The vocals in this track are very reminiscent of the early post-punk sound, adding an extra layer of cold rawness to the song.

Something that My Friend Chloe do really well is that they are self-assured in their sound and stick to it unapologetically. Their music is authentic, vulnerable and invigoraTING WITHOUT FEELING CLICHED OR PRETENTIOUS. Pretty much, these guys are just effortlessly cool in everything they do.
'gRIEF' is the kind of song that allows space for listeners to find their own meaning inside of it. Dealing with ideas of disconnection and self-abandonment, one of the messages of this song is that it is through the confrontation of grief that acceptance can be found.
After listening to 'Grief' I’m really looking forward to hearing My Friend Chloe's upcoming debut EP Grief Is Just Love In A Dirty Ashtray, and seeing where they are going to take their sound. Fans of Turnstile, Fontaines D.C, Wolf Alice and LCD Soundsystem will definitely love listening to these guys.
'grief' will be the lead single from My Friend Chloe’s debut EP Grief Is Just Love In A Dirty Ashtray. Make sure you listen to 'Grief' for yourself here and stay tuned for any more details about their soon-to-be released EP here!
