a brand new dark grunge band is emerging from uk's brighton, and we're obsessed with their debut single 'j.u.m' released on the 30th of april.

j.u.m (junked up murder) is a unique, 90's grunge style track with a lot of eerie and dark tones. this single is one to hit home for those relating to being an outcast, reject, or the black sheep.

based on the feeling of not finding the right people in your environment, or feeling as though what you give isn't being reciprocated and not understanding why, which brings me to the lyric "you open my dry heart, the city's full of unknown loners, ready to cut you half"

along with this uneasy, dark and gritty track, we have the perfect music video to go with it. filmed vertically in black and white, we have a focus on the vocalist, carmen mellino, pouring out what feels like a sense of longing for a glimpse of comfort in her surroundings. the intro is filmed from a public phone booth, almost as if we're witnessing carmen telling someone off for not appreciating her efforts in sharing her true self.

i really enjoyed how the sound of vocals align with the music video intro, sounding as if you're the one on the other end of the phone line, then continuing onto the rest of the video walking

the streets with clear VOCAL.

the drums have a catchy beat that just makes you wanna nod your head, while the guitar and bass both share that itching, dark & grainy sound that reminds me of watching smashing pumpkin's music videos on rage, on my childhood box tv at 8am on a saturday morning.

vocalist carmen mellino started building carne in mid october 2024, after solo writing over 40 songs and wanting to make more. soon finding the crew, Milo, emia and joe, they formed a band, they got to work rehearsing, recording, designing and photographing - now once a solo desire, blossomed into transformative, nostalgic 90's dark magic.

carne played their first headline show on the 27th of feb 2025 at the rossi bar and completely sold out! proving this band brings the heat and energy to the stage. They have since played several local shows in and around brighton, and have an upcoming slot they've earned on the isle of wight festival, AND THE GREAT ESCAPE FESTIVAL.
