Tassie terrors Tidewalker are welcoming in their debut EP, SOL//DEATH, a concept ep where they’re slowly peeling back the story about the end of the world.

“You've heard about the death of Sol, perhaps now it's time to learn how it began. This is how the World died.”
The Melodic metalcore act have been bopping around the state since 2023 to an ever growing fanbase. Tidewalker initially released two singles in 2023, ‘B1NARY S0UL’ and ‘Outbreath’, and are finally ready to drop some lore and reveal the end of the world. With album art, cryptic statements and QR codes, they intend to maintain suspense by drip feeding us content for a few more weeks.

For now, let’s talk about the title track - ‘SOL//DEATH’.
‘SOL//DEATH’ opens with ominous samples before punching you with riffs and aggressive vocals. The vocals are commanding, however they don’t delve into any deep gutturals, and sit in the higher end of the register, occasionally relaxing enough to come up for air.
The guitars are tapered making every moment is intentional, chugging at a slower tempo through much of the chorus, giving it a memorable and catchy edge. The pace tends to speed up through verses, often overlapping with the vocals for a jabbing blow. Between sections, guitars and vocals draw back, creating a dynamic for the synths to shine through.
The synths are drawn out and hold longer notes than anything else in ‘SOL//DEATH’, and add a gentle edge of otherness to the sound. It builds a backdrop for everything else to sit against, and creates an expanse in the sound, which I think drives a strong link between lore and EP art.
Having seen Tidewalker live a few times, I can easily say they’re highly energetic and that this track is more laid back than what I’ve come to expect from them - which only raises my anticipation for what is to come. 'SOL//DEATH' is a wicked opener for what I think will be a fucking solid ep.

‘SOL//DEATH’ is a wicked teaser for those who haven’t had the chance to check out Tidewalker yet.
if you like what you hear, then you’ll be stoked when the full EP has arrived.
